Hotmail is a free (and paid) web-based email service Microsoft bought in 1997, for a princely sum of over $ 400 million from its founders, Jack Smith and Sabeer Bhatia. It remains one of the most popular e-mail services in the world rankings second only to Yahoo! Mail - read Gmail usage statistics for details. Over the years Hotmail has made some changes and improvements to its original offering. It is now called  Windows Live Hotmail  and has been placed under the roof of the live.com website.

The  Hotmail sign-in page is located at mail.live.com  . By the way, the same page comes up, whether you go to www.hotmail.com or mail.live.com - type in which is more convenient for you.

A free Hotmail account now gives you 5GB of storage with increased security and improved spam filters. The simple interface loads quickly and thankfully, at the time of writing, no flashy image banners are displayed.(Some users see ads at the top - I also noticed the banners only on the odd occasion.). 

Hotmail Login or Register?

The Windows Live Hotmail page has two segments,  the  login  section on the left for the visitors, which does not have an account and takes them on the registration page, while the one on the right is the  character in the  area meant - see the picture below.

To log in to your Hotmail account, enter the full email address (such as example@hotmail.com or example@live.com) in the  Windows Live ID field  and the password in the next box. You do not want to be in your ID type every time you access your emails? No problem, just put in the box in front of "Remember me on this computer". Also, if you are the only person using this computer, you can enable the "Save password" check box. Use these characters in option when sitting on a foreign computer, such as in a library or an internet center. K

For added security, Hotmail provides the  https method.  Click on the  Use Increased Security  link on the same page via https, which is a more secure protocol and encrypts all the information you send over the Internet.

Check emails as soon as you log in to the Hotmail account

Assuming you were able to successfully go through Hotmail (see  Hotmail password issues  in case of any difficulties), you will either get to a splash screen (the MSN Today page) or the list of your e-mail messages (see the  Hotmail Inbox  ). The Hotmail account folders are on the left. Click on the Inbox link   to check your e-mail messages. Write down the number in brackets on the right side of this link to indicate the number of new, or rather unread, messages.

Change Hotmail Password - a new password for your account

Hotmail password is like a key from your account. It is extremely important that you keep it safe and secure because over time you can store sensitive and important information in your account. Many security advisors suggest making regular changes to password signing to prevent account hacking and theft of personal and business information.

Why should you forget your Hotmail?

There are many reasons why you would want to forget the change would  Hotmail account  .

You are all set to assign a new password to your Hotmail account and only need to complete three form fields. The first asks for the old password (to determine, you are indeed the true user) and in the other two you have to type in the new password. Hotmail allows you to use numbers and symbols in addition to uppercase and lowercase alphabet as well. Make the password as complex as possible, but not so much that you will not be able to use it again. The strength of passwords bar you from the strength of their "work" to lead. When finished, press the "Save" button  .

Hotmail has a nice feature that reminds you to change your password every 72 days. If you check the box next to  "Make my password run every 72 days"  will always modify an alarm result to the account password for more security.
